The Alyssum Basket of Gold Compacta, 'Aurina saxatilis', is a wonderful water-wise groundcover with dense clusters of golden-yellow spring flowers. This special dwarf variety of Basket of Gold is tight, compact, and very attractive. Combine the Alyssum Basket of Gold with red tulips, blue phlox, and candytuft for a wonderful early spring color display. Plant in the spring 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost date or in the late fall. This plant is excellent in rock gardens, in hanging baskets, in the foreground of borders, and as a ground cover.

The Tomato Pole Beefsteak, 'Lycopersicon lycopersicum', is an old favorite. The huge tomatoes can reach up to 2 pounds. This old favorite is for those who love meaty, thick, tasty, large tomatoes for sandwiches. They are also useful for almost any dish that would benefit from rich tomato flavor. The vines are so vigorous that we recommend wire cages to hold up the plants and tomatoes. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

The Bells of Ireland, 'Moluccella laevis', has tall spikes of apple-green bells that are perfect for the back of a border. Not only Irish eyes will smile at this unusual plant. It's bright greenbells with their tiny white clappers are always a conversation piece. The Bells of Ireland bloom in the late summer. Plant in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before last spring frost or late fall for early spring germination. The Bells of Ireland are excellent for cut or dried flowers. They are self sowing because the plants will come back the next year from the seed it drops.

The Mache Corn Salad Big Seeded, 'Valerianella locusta', has the mildest flavor and softest texture of any salad green. The leaves are so tender they Melt in your mouth. Once cured, hard-shelled gourds such as Birdhouse will last indefinitely and can be painted, carved, cut, or drilled as you would do with wood for literally hundreds of craft projects. It is a novelty that does not sacrifice taste. Black Krim produces good sized, black, beefsteak-sized tomatoes with a rich, earthy, almost smoky flavor.
